About Sekeping Kong Heng
Sekeping Kong Heng, in the charming old town of Ipoh, is the latest addition to the Sekeping family of retreats. It is located in a 3 storey neo-classical building which also houses a famous coffee shop of the same name on the ground floor that serves great coffee and the best local dishes in town. All effort has been made to preserve as much of the character of the existing building as possible in contrast to the surrounding new architectural interventions. In addition, an extension has been added at the back, tucked away to reveal an inner courtyard with a dramatic stairway to take guests up to their rooms.
Testimony to Ipoh’s decadent past, Kong Heng was used as a hostel to house theatre performers who performed in the adjacent theatre building that was burnt down in the 50s. Now rejuvenated, it is hoped that Sekeping Kong Heng will be able to offer guests a slice of history within a real old town setting which is alive, working and real.
Wake up to the heady aroma of white coffee that perfumes the air in the mornings, listen to the cacophony of banter between hawkers, go on a culinary adventure and experience living in the heart and soul of Ipoh.

The Standard Rooms
- Our guest rooms are situated in a renovated 90 year old building- and out of respect for the grand old dame, we would rather be gentle in our approach by putting up lightweight partition walls and ceilings. Because of this, soundproofing within the premise is minimal, which adds on to the experience of old skool ‘shop-house living’.
- Be prepared for noise coming from the legendary Kong Heng coffee shop situated directly below at the break of dawn, and perhaps, a whiff of the famous slow-burning satay creeping through the cracks of the neo-classical louver windows.
- By retaining as much of the natural set up of the old structure, you will hear sounds of footsteps coming from above and below. Because of this, we encourage you to consider the other guests by being light-footed and gentle with your steps.
- We encourage mingling amongst our guests, which is why you will not find a television set in every room. However, there are board games available and a shared 40” television complete with a DVD home theatre system situated at the communal area upstairs-this also means it may get pretty loud on occasions! Feel free to lounge around with your new friends on one of our many hammocks and charpoy daybeds.
- The front rooms are more likely to experience the ‘bustle’ of the guesthouse, so kindly request for rooms at the back for less noise.
The Family Rooms
- We will not, do not and cannot fumigate the area to rid insects and other local species. As we are a tropical country, we do have mosquitos and as a measure to protect you from insect bites, we provide mosquito nets for every bed available in the family room.
- We do not have air-conditioners in this room, but instead rely on the natural breeze and protection of the cool, green walls that blankets the entire room.
You will love Sekeping Kong Heng if you love trees, plants, architecture and a slice of history nestled between Ipoh's historical old town.

Muzium Darul Ridzuan
An interesting historical museum of Perak, located in a pretty formertin-mining tycoon's mansion near the Anglo-Indian railway station of Ipoh.
Mari Amman Temple
An old temple located on the banks of river near bridge on Sungai Pari Road, is kept very clean. It has sannidhis of pilliyar, muruga and navagrahas.
Ipoh Old Town
Walk around the (relatively) old city and look at the classy late 19th and early 20th-century buildings Ipoh is justly proud of.
Hill climbing
Menglembu Hill in Menglembu provides awe-inspiring views of the limestone outcros and caves that surround Ipoh
White-water rafting and caving
River Kampar offers great excitement with its relatively safe rapids.

From Ipoh KTM, walk toward Sekeping Kong Heng directions, head northeast toward Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab, turn right onto Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab, turn left onto Jalan Dato Maharajalela, continue onto 75 Jalan Panglima.
By car
From Kuala Lumpur, take the North-South Highway (NKVE) north and exit Plaza Toll Simpang Pulai. Turn right onto Route 1, slightright onto Jalan Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah, continue onto Jalan Sultan Iskandar, turn right onto Jalan Bijeh Timah, turn left onto 75 Jalan Panglima.
